Substance Abuse & Chemical Dependency Treatment
Addiction is one of the most common and devastating mental health concerns. It affects not only the addicted but their spouses, families, and friends as well. Deciding to change is a difficult process and many obstacles have been overcome to get to this point. If you are interested in getting help for yourself or for a loved one who is addicted, you are welcome.
In my practice, the first step is to perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine that outpatient treatment is the best option for you on your path to a successful recovery. Due to the often serious physical effects of withdrawal, a detoxification program in an in-patient setting may be more appropriate. Available treatment options will be explained but the decision is ultimately yours.
If we determine that outpatient treatment is appropriate, we would typically meet once per week for individual psychotherapy (though sessions may be scheduled more frequently if necessary). My approach to substance abuse and chemical dependence treatment is to integrate cognitive behavioral approaches with motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies. These approaches emphasize (1) identifying thoughts and behaviors that maintain the addiction, (2) facilitating the change process, and (3) reducing the likelihood of relapse. When agreed to, I frequently involve family members and significant others in the treatment process. I also encourage the use of 12 Step Programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), as an adjunct to our work together. As you can see, I take a comprehensive approach to substance abuse treatment.
In my practice, an individual therapy appointment to address substance abuse typically lasts 45 minutes and the fee is $150 per session. I maintain a non-managed care practice and do not routinely provide information to insurance companies. To learn more about my policies regarding insurance and payment options please visit my psychotherapy page. Appointments are most often scheduled once per week and the number of sessions varies, based on the needs of the client.
