If you suspect you or your child has attention deficit disorder (ADHD) psychotherapy and psychological testing may be able to help.
A comprehensive evaluation is often the first step. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, cognitive behavioral therapy can be very effectice in developing coping skills and other strategies. While there is no "cure" for ADHD, there are many strategies and interventions that may be able to improve functioning. An individual therapy appointment to address attention deficit hyperactivity disorder typically lasts 45 minutes and the fee is $200 per session. Appointments are most often scheduled once per week. The number of sessions may vary based on the needs of the client.
As a psychologist, I do not prescribe medication but I recognize that some clients may respond best to a combination of medication and psychotherapy. If I believe you or your child are likely to benefit from this combined approach, I will discuss this with you. The choice to take medication or not is yours. I consult with several psychiatrists in the Rockland County area and would be glad to make a referral. If you or your child are already under the care of a psychiatrist, I would be pleased to work with them to coordinate your care.
