Eric Neblung, Ph.D. - About Me

About Me...

Thank you for your interest in my services. Choosing a psychologist can be difficult and I am sure you have many questions. I will try to answer a few here but please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have.

Many prospective clients ask me about my education and training background so let's start there. I am a New York licensed psychologist (NY Lic. #017068). What that means is that I hold a doctoral degree and am licensed to practice psychology in the State of New York. I graduated with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a program accredited by the American Psychological Association. I also hold a Master's Degree in General Theoretical Psychology from that program and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from New York University.

As part of my education, I have trained in several hopsitals including multiple Veterans Affairs Hospitals (East Orange VA, Lyons VA, Bronx VA), Columbia Presbyterian, the New York State Psychiatric Insitute and Methodist Hospital. This training included outpatient, inpatient, medical floors, emergency room rotations as well as research training. I also succesfully completed my docotoral internship (think "residency" for psychologists) with the New Jersey Veteran's Affairs Administration. During that experience, I completed rotations on substance abuse residential units, posstraumatic stress residential units, outpatient clinics, and behavioral medicine / health psychology rotations.

Many people think of psychotherapy when they think of a psychologist but psychologists also perform psychological evaluations, teach, and provide expert consultation. I am trained in numerous psychological tests and often use them to answer referral questions such as clarifying a diagnosis, determining if a learning disability is present, or providing forensic assessment, among others. I have taught undergraduate students and provided supervision to graduate students. I also provide peer consultation to colleagues, testify as an expert witness, and provide training to organizations.

I have been active in my profession and was elected President of the New York State Psychological Association, an organization representing approximately 2,500 psychologists. I was also elected president of the Forensic Division of that organization and hosted trainings and other events. My political advocacy for those with mental health concerns included being the Chair of the Political Action Committee of the New York State Psychological Association. In all of these roles, I was an advocate for people with mental health concerns and other underserved populations. During my advocacy I have met with Senators, Representatives, and lobbyists with allied disciplines (teachers, social workers, etc.) in Washington D.C. and Albany.

Many people ask me why I became a psychologist and if I found it "depressing." The truth is, my work is inspiring because I am afforded the privilege of working with people who make remarkable changes in their life. They often first meet me in times of crisis and I am able to walk with them on their journey to a better place. Let's work together and see how I can help you.
